MSGA Named Georgia Lighthouse School to Watch
In January 2013, Marietta Sixth Grade Academy (MSGA) was named a Georgia Lighthouse School to Watch as part of a recognition program developed by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform. MSGA is one of only 17 other Georgia Schools to receive this honor since the program’s inception in 2002.

On April 23, 2008, the school district became the first IB World School district in Georgia authorized to offer the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) for grades 6-10. With the addition of the IB Middle Years Program to the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) offered at Sawyer Road Elementary and the long-standing IB Diploma Program (DP) at Marietta High School, MCS is one of only a few school systems nationwide able to provide the full IB (K-12) continuum.Parent Information Center

Marietta Reads! & Cobb County Public Library Partner For Literacy, May 25
Marietta City Schools (MCS) and the Cobb County Public Library System are teaming for free events to support and celebrate the district’s Marietta Reads! literacy initiative. On Saturday, May 25 at 2 p.m., join Marietta Reads! and Lynne Yates of the Georgia Equine Rescue League (GERL) for a free workshop about horse rescue. This free event takes place in the Activity Room of the Hattie G. Wilson Youth Services Department located at the Cobb County Central Library, 266 Roswell Street, Marietta. More»

Spring 2013 Kiwanis GEM Awards, May 16
The Kiwanis Club of Marietta recognizes a teacher and/or administrator as well as a student in each of the Marietta City Schools for "Going the Extra Mile" (GEM). Each school has a plaque on the wall of their school with the names of each GEM Award recipient since 1996. The spring 2013 Kiwanis GEM Awards were presented Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Marietta Conference Center.

Marietta City Schools (MCS) 2013 retirees recently gathered for a luncheon recognizing their 544 combined years of service to the school system.

Marietta City Schools has earned top honors for technology integration, and placed 1st, among mid-sized school districts (3,000 – 12,000 students), in the nation’s ninth annual Digital School Districts Survey by the Center for Digital Education (CDE) and the National School Boards Association (NSBA). Marietta Reads! Ninth Annual Read-A-Thon Raises Over $8,000
Marietta Reads! recently completed its ninth annual Read-A-Thon fundraising program for Marietta City Schools (MCS) elementary and Sixth Grade Academy students. This year's Read-A-Thon started March 22, 2013 and ended April 15, 2013. Students collected donations based on the amount of reading they did – elementary students had a target of 500 minutes while sixth grade students set a goal of 500 pages. More»

2012-2013 Energy Challenge
Save-A-Watt is an energy conservation contest for Marietta City elementary and secondary schools to compete to decrease their electrical consumption and identify sustainable energy conservation methods. Marietta City Schools launched Save-A-Watt in 2009 in partnership with Marietta Power & Water and Apogee Interactive, Inc.

Board Supports GSBA Vision for Public Education in Georgia
The Board of Education of the City of Marietta supports The Georgia School Boards Association and the Georgia School Superintendents Association partnership for creating a new vision for public education in the State of Georgia.
