Art
The Marietta Sixth Grade Art program is a year-long course that emphasizes a holistic learning approach in five areas of interaction. The development of skills in a wide variety of techniques, including the elements and principles of design, are explored through the following fundamental concepts: community/service, environment, health/social education, approaches to learning and how/why we create. Students’ experiences with Art will involve personal studio productions that include readings, writings, history and aesthetics. A wide variety of two and three-dimensional projects will be explored including drawing, printmaking, ceramics, painting, and deductive sculpture. The Marietta Sixth Grade Art program culminates with an Arts celebration/show at the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Fine Arts: Marietta, Ga., usually in April.

Band
Band is open to all students entering MSGA. Students will have the opportunity to play flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, or percussion. We will have several performance opportunities throughout the school year. MSGA has many instruments available for students to borrow from the school or students can rent instruments from music stores. Students will also need consumable supplies and method books. We also perform in a band uniform polo shirt that is used in 6th - 8th grade band. Participation in the Marietta Band program at MSGA is the foundation for all years of band offered in Marietta City Schools with opportunities for marching band, jazz band, small ensembles, honor band, all-state band, Midfest, Janfest, GHP, Solo and Ensemble, and scholarships for college.

Chorus
MSGA is the beginning of a progressive, developmental program in choral music. It is hoped that all chorus members will develop a love of singing and performing. This class is intended to expose students to the discipline expected in a performing group; the skills, knowledge and understanding required for high performance levels; and performance experiences at the expected competency level.

Orchestra
MSGA offers an orchestra class where students have the opportunity to challenge themselves by learning one of four string instruments – violin, viola, cello, or bass. We learn exciting music from all different styles – classical, pop, rock, jazz, country, and movie themes. We also get to take fun trips. 6th Grade students participate in several concerts throughout the year, the 6th Grade Jamboree, and the Trills and Thrills Festival held in the Spring. The possibilities are endless once you learn how to play your instrument.

Theatre Arts
MSGA Drama offers different opportunities for Marietta’s young artists!
Theatre Arts is intended to orient the students to the basic skills and concepts of theatre in the classroom. It is designed to inspire creative activity, develop an appreciation and understanding of theatre, and develop skills concerning the various aspects of play production. This class does not require an audition or previous experience! We learn about improv, script writing, performance, technical theatre, and more! This class features guest artist, workshops, and field trips throughout the year.
Enhanced Theatre is an audition-only course that is a production class. This class puts up the annual school musical and represents the school at other city-wide events. Check out the MSGA Drama website for more info on the enhanced class.
Health and Physical Education
The Marietta Sixth Grade Academy Physical Education and Health program encourages students to lead a physically active lifestyle, while providing opportunities for enjoyment, challenge, and self-expression. Current health issues are introduced to students so that rational decisions can be made about their own health. Students are exposed to a variety of activities in order for each student to experience success and develop physically, socially, and mentally.
