Student Dress Code

MSGA Unified Dress Code

The MSGA community strongly believes that adopting a uniform appearance in clothing fosters a positive and secure school environment while also addressing various challenges related to purchasing, selecting, and accepting clothing options. However, it is important to note that the administration retains the authority to address any violations of the dress code on an individual basis, taking into account the specific circumstances of each case.

MSGA students are required to adhere to the unified dress code requirements. Note: Parents/guardians are free to purchase uniform items from whatever vendor they choose as long as it meets the guidelines of the MSGA Unified Dress Code.

Shirt Options:

  • Marietta logo or affiliated shirts are allowed in any color (for purchasing information and options, visit the online Middle Grades PTSA store.)
  • Non-Marietta logo or affiliated shirts are allowed only in Navy Blue, Gray, or White. Graphic T-shirts are not permitted.

Pants, Shorts, and Skirts:

  • Joggers, sweatpants, jeans (without rips, holes, or fringes), leggings, slacks, and mid-thigh length shorts in solid tan, grey, blue, or black are acceptable. Pajama pants are not permitted.
  • Skirts/skorts/dresses must be mid-thigh length or longer in solid tan, grey, blue, or black are acceptable.

Outerwear/Jackets/Other:

  • Hoodies, Sweaters, and Sweatshirts with the Marietta logo or affiliated logo are allowed in any color.
  • Non-Marietta logo or affiliated Hoodies, Sweaters, and Sweatshirts are allowed only in Navy Blue, Gray, or White. Graphic Hoodies, Sweaters, and Sweatshirts are not permitted.
  • Hoods are not worn on the head while in the building. Non-compliance is considered a dress code offense.
  • Coats and jackets may be worn during the school day but must remain unzipped to display the uniform shirt.

Shoes:

  • Shoes should be closed toe and appropriate for a school environment.
  • Flip flops, sandals without a back strap, heels above two inches, and slides are not permitted.
  • Athletic shoes are recommended.

The consequences for students not in appropriate dress are as follows, per semester:

  • First Offense: Parent/Guardian is called to bring appropriate clothing/shoes to student or change of clothes will be provided to student
  • Second Offense: Parent/Guardian is called to bring appropriate clothing/shoes to student or change of clothes will be provided to student; notification letter is sent
  • Third Offense: Parent/Guardian is called to bring appropriate clothing/shoes to student or change of clothes will be provided to student; lunch detention provided and entered in Aspen as a minor referral conduct violation; ISS warning communication sent to parents/guardians.
  • Fourth Offense: Parent/Guardian is called to bring appropriate clothing/shoes to student or change of clothes will be provided to student; student placed in ISS with a major referral.*

*Based on administrative discretion: when a parent/guardian is unavailable to bring student-appropriate clothing, the student may be placed in isolation for the remainder of the school day

Due to the nuances associated with dress codes, the administration reserves the right to handle all dress code violations on a case-by-case manner and deem other types of dress inappropriate even if not described specifically in this policy.

Marietta Sixth Grade Academy (MSGA) Technology Use Policy

At MSGA, we are proud to provide our students with a multitude of technological resources. Our classrooms are fully equipped with wireless laptops, printers, and interactive display boards, all of which are integral to our lessons. Students are expected to utilize these resources with the utmost responsibility and respect. Any misuse can result in loss of privileges.

Often, students are required to conduct online research for projects and class work. We have a firm policy at MSGA that requires students to cite ALL sources for information obtained via the Internet. Plagiarism is a serious offense and can lead to disciplinary consequences, including a lowered grade.

Moreover, students are required to adhere to the MCS Acceptable Use Guidelines (Board Policy IFBG-E1) and the MSGA BYOT ("Bring Your Own Technology") Agreement. Parents and students are required to complete and sign the BYOT form every school year.
